My View of Objectively Good Design
Good design is a selfless endeavour that places the consumer's needs above personal preferences. It involves thoughtful consideration of how a design serves its users and those around them, emphasizing honesty in its execution. Additionally, good design prioritizes accessibility, ensuring usability and accessibility for everyone. Striving for excellence, good design contributes positively to the world, embracing innovation to achieve this goal. Furthermore, it acts as a steward of the earth by minimizing environmental impact using sustainable materials including calculated manufacturing and design considerations. Symbolism plays a crucial role, with visual elements conveying meaning, and emotion, resonating with users. Functionality remains paramount, where practicality and usability take precedence, adhering to the principle that form follows function. Additionally, form acts as a function through emotion conveyed to the user. Lastly, good design fosters connections and unity, bringing people together through intentional choices.
Summary of Experience
From a young age, I have had a deep interest in design, which has only further increased during my previous work experience. During my internship at Creative Visual Solutions, I immersed myself in 3D modelling, line drawing, and rendering, managing design timelines effectively. This experience allowed me to contribute my CAD expertise to trade show booth designs, showcasing my ability to create dynamic and engaging spaces.
At Encore Market Engagement, I worked as a Creative Specialist and Product Display Installer, where I designed visually cohesive guides for training employees on the program. I also travelled across Canada to install these displays myself. This role taught me the importance of visual communication and the practical aspects of graphic design.
My time at PragerNuform as a Design and Engineering Intern also developed my technical skills. I used SolidWorks, Illustrator, and Photoshop to conceptualize and render retail displays and fixtures. This experience taught me how to bridge the gap between designers and manufacturing through high-detail technical packages.
Additionally, my role as an Assembly Worker at PragerNuform provided hands-on experience in efficient manufacturing processes. This taught me how to design with manufacturing efficiency in mind, ensuring that my designs are not only innovative but also practical and feasible.
With a solid foundation in industrial design from Carleton University and a minor in Business Entrepreneurship, I am well-equipped to bring innovative solutions to complex design challenges. My diverse experiences have prepared me to make a positive impact on consumers with your team and contribute to the success of your projects.
